NASA Harvest and Argentina’s Bolsa begin the Fifth Year of our Joint High School Program.
The Buenos Aires Grain Exchange, together with its strategic partners at NASA Harvest, is launching a new edition of this initiative in 2025.
The program trains students and teachers in their final year of secondary school from agricultural and agro-industrial institutions in the use of remote sensing tools and applications for georeferencing, crop monitoring, digital farm management, and the use of high-resolution imagery.
Students and teachers from the provinces of Buenos Aires, Chaco, Córdoba, Corrientes, Entre Ríos, Jujuy, La Pampa, Salta, and Santa Fe have already been trained through this program. They participated in sessions focused on agricultural estimates and the use of new technologies, such as remote sensors, Big Data, and artificial intelligence. In this fifth edition, new schools are joining, content will be updated, and an exclusive session will be offered for teachers.
The program begins with a theoretical stage, featuring virtual classes led by experts from the Buenos Aires Grain Exchange and NASA Harvest , along with professors from the University of Maryland in the United States and instructors from Argentina and abroad. Topics include the importance of crop yield estimates for agricultural markets, the role of Earth observation data in studying agricultural activity, and the use of new technologies to improve the accuracy of these estimates.
In the second stage, students take part in fieldwork, joining the Grain Exchange’s crop estimation team to ground-truth data in their local areas and monitor crop development. Later, they engage in practical activities using various technological tools to analyze the collected data, supported by technicians from the Exchange and NASA itself. This data helps the institution produce better weekly crop estimates and provides students in their final year of high school with training that better prepares them for careers in digital agriculture. For teachers, it’s also an opportunity to stay current with the latest in digital agriculture and become part of the Grain Exchange’s network of informants.
